‘Free DC’: Washington Spirit fans channel activism pitchside
In addition to fans nationwide, I spoke with players and the NWSL commissioner at games as credentialed press. I also photographed supporters and produced an accompanying video, which became the most viewed post on the @medilldc Instagram within a week of posting. The reel now has over 6,000 views.
Men’s Basketball: Northwestern defense steps up in 68-50 win over Pepperdine
Every game has a key play. This time, it was Justin Mullins’ fast-break dunk. Even coach Chris Collins agreed in the post-match press conference.

St. Louis Hosted the First Olympic Games in America — And It Was Chaotic
This feature is a bit different from the typical sports story, but the same "always make that extra call" principle applies. That led to interviews with two Olympic medalists, who turned this story from a retrospective piece to one about what sports mean to a city.

Podcast —Cats Corner: Looking ahead to spring sports
Barely anything beats podcasts in sports media nowadays. I spoke with two former Daily Northwestern sports editors who had covered lacrosse, softball and baseball. I then edited our 30-minute conversation into this 10-minute cut using Adobe Audition.

Women’s Golf: Lee wins individual title as Northwestern loses East Lake Cup final to No. 3 Oregon
I’ll admit I learned about golf as I began writing about it, since the Daily needed a golf writer. As with any other topic, research was key.

Bringing back orange and black: A historic season
This piece is part one of a series that won first place in the columns category of the National Federation of Press Women's 2021 High School Communications Contest. The Giants have gotten worse since then, and the Dodgers are better than ever. But my love of sportswriting and my bitterness toward the Dodgers remains.
Celebrating Buster Posey: the backbone of San Francisco
This piece is part two of a series that won first place in the columns category of National Federation of Press Women's 2021 High School Communications Contest. Call me delusional, but since Posey is back, hopefully that means we'll also see a repeat of the 2021 regular season.
